History [ edit ]

The Australian Mist, is a breed of cat developed in Australia in the late 1970s. formerly known as the Spotted Mist the name was changed not only to reflect its national heritage, but also when cats with marbled coats, rather than spots, were accepted as part of the breed. This breed evolved from an interbred amongst Burmese, Abyssinian, and domestic shorthair cats. Australian Mists are a very vigorous breed; with a large gene pool, derived from over 30 foundation cats, the Burmese being the predominant contributor. Spotties, as they are affectionately called by their fanciers, have inherited the loving temperament of the Burmese, the vivacity of the Abyssinian and the resilience of the common domestic cat which, combined with their delicately spotted and marbled coats, is winning many followers.
