Ask the expert

Do iguanas transmit diseases to people?
Ask the Vet
Iguanas, like most mammals, carry E. coli Bacteria in their feces. This germ is potencially lethal, but only when in contact with food or water. If you don’t allow contact between feces and food substance, and if you wash your hands after handling the animal, then the Escherichia coli poses no threat to you.
