History [ edit ]

Female goats are referred to as does or nannies, males are called bucks or billies and their offspring are kids.

There are over 300 breeds of goats worldwide.

Goats are generally found in mountains in high altitudes, where they seek for shelters from predators. Their wool is thick and their lungs are adapted to less oxygen in the air.

Description [ edit ]

Goats are identified by their horns and beard. In most of the cases, horns only grow in males, however, there are breeds in which both sexes display horns. The beard is present in males and females.

It is believed that some males don’t develop horns because of a genetic deficiency, a situation that it’s not that rare.

Some breeds of goats and sheep are very similar. However, on goats, the tail is always short and pointing up, while in sheep, the tail can be short, docked or long, but never points up.

Temperament [ edit ]

Goats are extremely curious and intelligent. They are herbivores, but they bite anything that they feel curious about.

It’s possible to housebreak a goat, but it takes a lot of training and patience.

Goats communicate by using their famous sound “beeeee”.
