History [ edit ]

The Toy Fox Terrier is a small dog originated in the USA. Descending from the Smooth Fox Terrier, it also has a mixture of Chihuahua´s and the Manchester´s Terrier blood. His first use was ratting, but rapidly evolved to a companion dog. The breed can be traced back to the 1930s, but it was recently recognized by the AKC (2003) and it´s still waiting for the other organizations approval. This dog is a Toy and a Terrier, combining the intelligence and energy of the Terrier, with the affection and devotion to the family of the Toy.

General appearance [ edit ]

This breed has a well-balanced body that projects strength and agility. Small, 25,5 cm as maximum height, it as nonetheless, a compact and athletic figure.

The coat is short, fine and glossy with a predominantly white color scheme. The combinations can be: tri-color, white and tan or black and white. The white usually covers the body, with occasional black spots, and the rest of the colors are concentrated on the head. In fact, if a head has more than 50% white on it, that is considered a reason for disqualification.

This breed has expressive round eyes and V-shaped ears, which are set high on the head and fairly close together.

The tail is set high, held erect, and it is usually docked.
