Samoyed

The Samoyed is a strong, robust, alert and dynamic, white dog, that combines beauty with agility, dignity and grace. The males have a distinctive masculine appearance without being coarse, while bitches look definitely feminine.The compact, muscular body is not long and has a deep chest, not  barrelled, and well-sprung ribs, giving plenty of room for heart and lungs and allowing proper movement of the shoulders and freedom for the front legs. The back is straight to the loin, medium in length and very muscular. The loins are strong and slightly arched. The legs are solid and muscular and the feet are flat and hairy to prevent the ice from packing into the spaces between the pads. The powerful, wedge-shaped head, carried with dignity on a strong, well muscled neck, has a broad, slightly crowned skull. The stop is well defined, though not too abrupt. The medium length muzzle tapers toward the nose, that is generally black or brown. The deep set, almond-shaped eyes are dark and have a gleaming, animated expression, which, combined with the mobile ears and the slightly upturned lips, give the breed what is known as the “Samoyed expression”.The ears are medium-sized, set wide apart, thick and well-furred, triangular in shape, rounded at the point and carried erect. The tail, one of the Samoyeds more distinguishing features, is long, full-haired and carried rolled on the back. In cold weather, this breed may sleep with their tails over their noses to provide additional warmth.The double coat is heavy and weather-resistant. The top coat is long, thick, harsh and not wavy and the undercoat is dense, short and soft, to give protection against extreme cold weather. The coat sheds twice a year. Samoyeds come pure white, white and biscuit, cream, or all biscuit.
